Interest Personal Loan deductible
If you take out a Personal Loan for the purchase, improvement or renovation of your home, you have a tax benefit. In other words: the interest is deductible when you use the money for the purchase, improvement or renovation of your home.
Interest from Revolving Credit is deductible
Did you take out a Revolving Credit before 1 January 2013 and before this date withdraw amounts that were used for the purchase, improvement or renovation of the owner-occupied home? The interest on these amounts is deductible. Amounts that you have withdrawn after 1 January 2013 are subject to the new law and the interest on this is no longer deductible.
When an existing Revolving Credit is transferred, the old tax rules remain in effect.
Tax Treatment of Own Home Review Act
As of 1 January 2013, the Tax Treatment Owned Home Review Act came into effect. For Personal Loans, the interest remains deductible. The interest is of course only deductible if it is used for home improvement.
